Troller takes Chair Dr Julian Troller has been named as Associate Professor in the Chair of Intellectual Disability Mental Health at the University of NSW from February 2009. Dr Troller is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Psychiatry at UNSW and his research interests include neuropsychiatry with particular expertise in brain imaging and genetics and a focus upon the ageing process.
Product safety places Elizabeth Tydd has been appointed Chairperson of the Products Safety Committee. Peter Slattery has been appointed Executive Officer of the Committee.
Taskforce gets Watt Dr Hunter Watt is to join the Greater Metropolitan Taskforce as Chief Executive, replacing Professor Peter Castaldi, who recently retired. The Taskforce is funded by NSW Health. Dr Watt was an adult and paediatric urologist with the Northern Illawarra Hospitals Group for over 25 years and has experience as a clinician, medical community leader and health services planner, manager and administrator.
Kear takes over SES Murray Kear has been appointed as Director-General of the State Emergency Service from 4 November. Mr Kear started out as a firefighter in 1980 before rising through the ranks to become Assistant Commissioner and Director of Community Safety. He was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal – the highest award a firefighter can receive - in the Australia Day Honours Awards in 2006.
Ibrahim on Boxing Board Dr Ameer Ibrahim has been appointed a Member of the Boxing Authority of NSW. His term began on 29 October and would expire on 19 May 2009. Dr Ibrahim is a sports physician who graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2005 and has had more than 10 years of sports medicine experience dealing with professional and elite athletes and teams across a number of different sports.
de Carvalho to Film Office Paul de Carvalho has been appointed to the new position of Director, Production Attraction at the NSW Film and Television Office. Mr de Carvalho is a film marketing strategist and has joined the FTO after managing Fox Searchlight and Specialised Films, 20th Century Fox Film Distributors, for three years. He co-founded the Sydney Asia Pacific Film Festival and was responsible for creating and implementing marketing strategies for Juno and Little Miss Sunshine.
O’Kane to Chief Scientist Professor Mary O’Kane has been appointed as NSW’s first Chief Scientist and Scientific Engineer. Premier Nathan Rees said Professor O’Kane had a distinguished career in science, academia, engineering, policy development and business and brought well-rounded and high-level skills and experience to the position.
